Endless Benefits of Community Gardening — Eric Stevens of Garden Heights Nursery. Urban benefits, social benefits, health benefits, educational benefits, the benefits are endless. In this discussion Eric will talk about how regreening vacant spaces in urban settings will enrich the urban soil and beautify empty spaces, increase value and curb appeal of your community and encourage urban wildlife.  Learn how community gardens are the ideal places to "build a sense of community". It is a great option for apartment dwellers or people with limited space to have a garden and meet people of their community.  Build civil bridges by problem solving, decision making, sharing and so on. Individuals and families have access to fresh and nutritional food from the garden and increase physical health through all the activities involved with a garden.  A community garden is a very educational experience through hands on experience and wisdom of fellow gardeners.  Various growing techniques for successful gardens, photos and designs will be presented in this discussion.
Tuesday April 8th — 7p to 9p
Garden Birding — Connie Alwood has been a Master Gardener since 2004 and specializes in the relationship between plants and birds in our landscape. A very knowledgeable speaker, Connie will shock you with incredible information about our native bird population. Ever wonder who those wonderful songs belong to while working in your yard? Can't tell the difference between a house finch and house slippers? Want to learn how to bring more color into your yard - color that flies in daily? Then this program fits the bill (or is it beak?) Birds in the Garden will help you learn how to identify birds common to your back yard. You'll learn quick reference tips, song characteristics and ways to entice some of the most colorful birds found within the St. Louis area to call your garden home.
